Jona Kronenberg was born in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia to Polish parents who managed to escape Poland during the Second World War, finally emigrating to Israel in 1950, where he resides today. During his medical studies in Vienna, he fell in love with both the city and the woman who would later become his wife. He wrote a tourist guide about the city, as well as two novels tied to its history: The Spear of Destiny (Heb, 2012) / Der Schiksalsspeer: Ratselhafte Macht im Hause Habsburg (Ger, 2016), and Where Are You, Ziona? (Heb, 2020).

The Final Fortress (2025) is his third novel.

Today, Jona is an emeritus professor at the medical faculty of Tel Aviv University. He enjoys collecting historical medical books and paraphernalia.
