Past and present are tied together as three men of different origins arrive at the same plot of land centuries apart to find one of the holiest places in the world collecting innocent lives

Bethlehem, 1593. Amico, a young and talented Franciscan friar from Gallipoli in southern Italy arrives at the holy land to document Christianity’s holiest places. In the fields of Bethlehem, he meets a young girl who shows him a secret underground passage to the Church of the Nativity. Excited by the discovery, he gifts her with a portrait, unaware that his seemingly innocent gift may lead to bloodshed.

Bethlehem, 1920. Giles, a British Surveyor, arrives in the Land of Israel during the British-Mandate following his service in the First World War, where he experienced the horror of the Gallipoli Campaign in Turkey. During a survey mission in the fields near the Church of the Nativity with a young archeologist, Giles makes an eye-opening discovery that helps him bury the past and laugh again, one that will change the trajectory of his life far from England.

Bethlehem, 2002. Armed militants occupy of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. While the Israeli army surrounds the church, a sniper from an elite unit is watching through the sights of his rifle, ready to shoot whoever tries to break the siege through one of the underground passages.

When innocent lives are repeatedly lost at one of the holiest places on Earth in this historical collage, we are forced to ask – what can an individual do when faced with violent, blood-soaked events? What is the moral choice of a society facing such violence?
