Irith Cherniavsky was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel with her family in 1957. Cherniavsky studied economics and sociology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specializing in urban economcs and town planning. She then studied Jewish History at the same institution. The research for her master's degree was about the Polish Righteous Among the Nations.

Her PhD dissertation titled The Polish Jews, Emigration in the 1930's, constituted the basis for this book.

These days Irith Cherniavsky is at the final stages for the publication of her next book: Jewish Warsaw Before the Holocaust.
